The sound of your voice comes from your vocal chords in your neck. The sound is changed by the shape of your mouth, nose and lips. If something happens to your vocal chords, like they get swollen or infected then they can’t vibrate properly to make the sound of your voice. This can happen if you have a disease (like a cold) or if you damage them by shouting too much.
