Almost all of your body is covered in hair follicles in your skin. This is the bulb bit at the end that you see when you pull a hair out. The bit under the skin is alive and the strand coming out of this skin is dead. The strands are mostly made of protein and each strand actually contains several layers of cells. Each hair has a 3 phases of it’s life and at the end it falls out. On your head each hair falls out every 2 – 8 years.
