The scientists who came before and discovered something amazing, or had these ideas that might seem odd or impossible at the time, but transformed the modern world. People who are thinking in a different direction from everyone else. People like Wilhelm Roentgen, who invented x-rays; Paul Lauterbur and Peter Mansfield who worked out a way of making pictures of your insides using radio waves, a magnetic field and the water molecules inside your body; or Crick, Watson, Wilkins and Franklin who discovered the structure of DNA.
Small developments in science are relatively easy, but it’s these really big ideas that come from people thinking slightly differently, or linking different scientific fields that give us the big advances.
